NEXUS Australia is largely organised by a voluntary committee of prominent next generation philanthropists and social change makers.

Lucinda steggles

Executive Officer

  • Lucy is the Executive Officer of NEXUS Australia and a member of the NEXUS Global Mental Health Council, having been involved with NEXUS since 2015. Lucy has been a delegate and speaker at several NEXUS Global Summits, including as an official delegate to the United Nations Population Fund brains trust on Youth Creating a Resilient World. Passionate about philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, Lucy has used her time and skills to passionately drive social change. After working in professional services for 13 years both within Australia and the UK, in 2019 Lucy moved into not-for-profit and sits on the executive leadership team at youth mental health organisation, batyr. Lucy has been an active member of Philanthropy Australia’s Next Generation of Giving Program since 2014, and is also involved in her families philanthropic giving.

ANGUS CROWTHER

Co-Chair

  • Angus is co-founder and Director of Tanck, a strategic advisory and communications firm that supports for-purpose and social sector clients to drive better advocacy and engagement of government and philanthropy. His political experience, advising to ministers in the executive functions of government, has given Angus an edge that he brings to his social sector clients and also to Nexus. He works with a broad cohort of clients who are seeking to affect positive social change, supporting social sector leaders to navigate the pathways and machinery of government to ensure the voice of the sector is better represented in government decision making. Angus joined the Nexus Australia committee in 2019.

Tyson FenAY

Co-chair

  • Tyson has been a member of the Philanthropy Australia’s New Generation of Giving (New Gen) Network since 2021 and stepped into the Chair role for the Volunteer Committee in 2024. 

    Tyson is the founder of Caradonna, an investor-operator based in Sydney.

    Beyond his professional pursuits, Tyson also co-founded A Night in the Doghouse, one of Australia’s largest community fundraisers for mental health.

    Tyson holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Advanced Studies from the University of Sydney and is currently pursuing an MBA at Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Amanda Smorgon

  • Amanda is recognised as a senior local community leader with strong networking, fundraising and public speaking skills. As a media lawyer at Minter Ellison, she advised private and public sector organisations on matters of defamation, privacy and risk management - and regularly appeared in all Victorian courts on behalf of The Age and Fairfax Media. She co-founded Young Carlton Professionals in 2012, a networking group for next generation business leaders to engage with the Carlton Football Club. She was appointed to the Executive and Cabinet of the United Israel Appeal (UIA) in 2018, and is Co-Chair of the Victorian Women's Division. UIA operates fundraising campaigns in 40+ countries and is the preeminent Australian charity donating and investing in Israel. She is mother to 3 young children and an involved member of their school Parent’s Association. Amanda holds a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications) from the University of Melbourne. 

Caleb Adams

  • As an Associate Director of ESG and Sustainable Investment at E&P Financial Group, Caleb is dedicated to channelling capital towards high-impact investment opportunities. As a proud Wulli-Wulli man, he is equally passionate about promoting First Nations economic development. Caleb is a Non-Executive Director for the Climate Action Network Australia (CANA), a member of the Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) First Nations Reference Group, and a recent contributor the 2023 UNPFII EGM on “Indigenous Peoples in a Green Economy”. Caleb brings extensive experience in developing operational sustainability strategies, having worked with leading organisations such as Lendlease and AMP Capital, while regularly providing strategic guidance to non-profit organisations. Caleb holds a Master of Development Studies from the University of Melbourne, a Bachelor of Engineering from Griffith University and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD).

GRACE MATHEW

  • As Managing Director of WeThink, Grace consults on impact investment, growth strategy and market engagement, with recent clients ranging from significant impact investment funds to global firms including Google and DLA Piper. Grace sits on the Board of the Healthcare Impact Foundation and co-leads the Global Family Office BioForum, into which she personally introduced over 150 international family offices. She sits on the advisory board of Healthcare Ventures, Australia’s first digital health venture capital fund.

Kristie Steggles

  • Kristie is involved with the Next Gen Network at Philanthropy Australia and Nexus. Kristie has a professional services background, having worked at leading international institutions including KWM and Goldman Sachs. With a passion for social impact, Kristie progressed her career into the NFP sector, currently in a leadership role at a leading medical research institute. Outside of work, Kristie is involved in her family’s philanthropic giving. From the Steggles chicken family, Kristie has carried on the family’s legacy, having a passion for agriculture. Kristie also has interests in Climate and Conservation, International Aid and Animal welfare.

Martin Green

  • Martin is a long standing member of NEXUS and Philanthropy Australia’s New Gen Network. Martin is the Director of the Imprint Family Foundation, a Director of Australia’s leading poetry organisation Red Room Poetry, plays in a band and volunteers in music production for at-risk youth at arts charity Heaps Decent.

MASSIMO BELGIORNO-NETTIS

  • Massimo combines a Bachelor of Civil Engineering, a career in construction, and an MBA to manage investments in a private family office. His investment focus is on early-stage venture capital, Australian real estate, and global listed equities. Massimo is a lifelong learner and possesses a keen interest in natural history, anthropology, the environment, science, and education. Massimo is the Sydney Ambassador for Philanthropy Australia’s New Gen Committee, a Director of the Australian Museum Foundation, and supports Positive Education Schools Association and Environmental Leadership Australia. Massimo is the proud father of two (very cute) young girls and on the weekends can be found hydrofoil surfing on Sydney’s eastern beaches.

THOMAS PEABODY

  • Thomas is passionate about philanthropy and collaboration. Since 2019, Thomas has held the role of Communications Manager/Executive at Sony Foundation Australia. Sony Foundation Australia is The charity arm of the Sony Group of companies. Through engaged philanthropy and collaboration, Sony Foundation endeavours to positively influence society through social change and to empower the next generation. Sony Foundation seeks to be the voice for young Australians falling through the gaps, championing equitable health and well-being outcomes. Prior to Sony Foundation, Thomas worked at arts not-for-profit, ‘Sculpture by the Sea’, and has been involved with other NFPs including ‘Roses in the Ocean’. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Law (Honours), and a Bachelor of Creative Industries from Queensland University of Technology.

 
 

NEXUS Australia Advisory Council

The NEXUS Advisory Council is the governing entity which oversees NEXUS's Australia's strategy and activities, aligned to the NEXUS Global Vision and Mission.

Georgia Mathews

  • Georgia (she/her) is a philanthropic consultant and respected leader with a decade of experience in the field.

    She has held management and executive positions at a range of philanthropic institutions, most recently as Director of Philanthropy at Australian Communities Foundation. She has had a significant impact on the field through the establishment of several award-winning philanthropic initiatives, the publication of research, and support for sector education and development.

    Georgia brings together her skills and experience to support clients in the effective redistribution of wealth, with a focus on social justice philanthropy principles. Her own unique relational approach and appetite to keep what’s good whilst continually seeking out new and better ways to practise giving are her best assets.

    In addition to her freelance work, Georgia is Deputy Chair of Rainbow Giving Australia, Co-chair of the NEXUS Australia Advisory Committee and an Affiliated Consultant with Ktisis Capital.

    She resides on the unceded lands of the Bunurong People of the East Kulin Nation on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula with her wife Emerald and her dog, Sonny.

AMANDA MILLER OAM

  • Amanda is a co-founder of Impact Generation Partners, which advises, invests in and supports enterprises that deliver financial, as well as social and/or environmental, returns. Amanda is committed to building the philanthropic sector alongside the impact investing ecosystem in Australia. Amanda Co Chairs Philanthropy Australia and is a Director of Impact Investing Australia. Amanda was previously Deputy Chair of the Federal Government’s Social Impact Investing Taskforce’s Expert Panel.

    Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law (Honours) from Monash University and started her career practicing corporate law at Allens. She then moved into the philanthropic sector working with not-for-profit organisations and in philanthropic services at the Myer Family Company, assisting intergenerational families and individuals to implement strategic giving programs. Amanda chairs the independent grants selection committee for Community Capital.

    Amanda is passionate about engaging the next generation in giving and in creating change. She was involved in founding and then chairing Kids in Philanthropy, has been part of NEXUS Australia since its inception and has been a member and Chair of Philanthropy Australia’s New Generation of Giving program in Melbourne.

    Amanda strongly believes in the power of supporting and investing in women and girls and is a member of the Advisory Group of She Gives. A past staff member and Board member of Australians Investing In Women, Amanda is proud to have advised and invested in a number of for-purpose enterprises founded or co-founded by women.

Nick Moraitis

  • Nick Moraitis is Managing Director at Watershed, a consultancy working with philanthropy to shape, start and scale critical climate and democracy initiatives.

    He has previously served as CEO at the Foundation for Young Australians, and was founder and Executive Director of Centre for Australian Progress. Nick has held a variety of staff and numerous board roles across the non-profit sector, and is currently an advisor to Tripple and a board member of Global Citizen.

Rachel Gerrol

  • Rachel Gerrol is widely recognized for her work on innovative philanthropy, which has been featured in The New York Times, The Financial Times, The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Forbes and more.  She is Co-Founder and CEO of NEXUS, the leading global network of next-gen philanthropists and impact investors, with 6,000 members from 70+ countries, representing families with a combined net worth of $750 billion.  She has led over 50 NEXUS summits across 6 continents, including at UN, The White House and No. 10 Downing Street and with heads of state from around the world.  

    In addition, Rachel Chaired the G8 Young Summit, Co-Founded the UN Media for Social Impact Summit and curated the White House Conference on Next Gen Philanthropy. Rachel worked closely with the Obama and Biden Administrations to create the “It’s On Us” campaign to stop sexual assault on campus and received the “Beacon Award” from the Ellis Island Honors Society for securing millions of dollars for Holocaust Survivors living below the poverty line.  

    Rachel serves on the Boards of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services and Abrahamic House, as well as on the Governing Committee of Lifestyles Magazine and on the Advisory Council of the Matthew Perry Foundation. She previously served on the Board of Birthright Israel Foundation and on the Next Gen Council of the USC-Shoah Foundation.
